“You’re leaving?” she inquired softly.

Kurama chose not to answer, yet his silence spoke a million words. His eyes were filled with regret, but he couldn’t just ignore Hiei’s plea to return to Makai. He was needed, and he never was the one to let a good friend down.

But you could let the one you love down? What irony, he chided himself.

“I’m sorry, Botan,” he said instead.

Botan nodded to herself, affirming what her heart knew all along. She looked at Kurama imploringly, her pink gaze stripping Kurama of his very soul. “Promise you’ll come back?”

“I promise.”
